Even if our Buckfast bees do not protest heavily during the honey harvest, they must be removed from the comb. For this purpose we use a brush with plastic bristles and a bright yellow handle. The brush can be easily spotted when incidentally dropped into high weeds and can also be kept hygienically clean.
As shown on the picture most of the bees can be already brushed off while the frame is still inside the box. The brush is held vertically with the bristles in a right angle to the comb.

Bigger amounts of bees can be removed by holding the frame at one corner and hitting the back of the hand with the palm of the other hand. Make sure the lower corner of the frame is positioned inside the box!
No need to worry about the clockwork smoker.
When properly filled and lit it will work for hours.
The last bees brushed off, the last frame transferred to the transport box - honey extraction can be started!
